New orchestral collaborations
Ravel Edition is delighted to announce new orchestral collaborations for the 26/27 season: Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino (Italy), Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra (USA), Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra (USA), Iceland Symphony Orchestra (Iceland), Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan), Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (Sweden).
Existing collaborations are also deepening, notably with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Sweden) for a performance of Rapsodie espagnole conducted by George Benjamin and a conducting masterclass with Thomas Adès, and with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra for Rapsodie espagnole.
The revised edition of the Rapsodie espagnole features in the opening concert of the 2026 Festival Ravel, given by the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse under the baton of Josep Pons.
The sold-out concert will be broadcast live on France Musique.

On 8 September 2026, at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, the MITO SettembreMusica festival will give the Italian premiere of Sémiramis — the Prélude et Danse along with the Air de Manassès for tenor and orchestra, both drawn from Maurice Ravel's unfinished cantata.
The Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin will be conducted by Ludovic Morlot, with tenor Pierre Derhet.
The concert will also hold another Ravelian surprise, with mezzo-soprano Rinat Shaham.

To mark the 150th anniversary of Ricard Viñes's birth (1875-1943), the Museu de la Música de Barcelona is devoting an exhibition to the Catalan pianist who premiered some of Ravel's most essential works — from the Menuet antique (1898) to the Pavane pour une infante défunte, Jeux d'eau (1902), Miroirs (1906) and Gaspard de la nuit (1909).

Beyond its editorial work, Ravel Edition seeks to share widely the knowledge accumulated on Ravel's art — his way of composing, correcting, hesitating and deciding. The Orchestre de Paris, under the direction of Alain Altinoglu, gave the French premiere of the Prélude et Danse and of Scène I – Air de Manassès (soloist Léo Vermot-Desroches) from Sémiramis at the Philharmonie de Paris.
For the Ravel 2025 anniversary concert and the celebration of the centenary of L'Enfant et les sortilèges by the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie, the Musée des Instruments de Musique (MIM) in Brussels exceptionally agreed to lend its Luthéal (Piano Pleyel, Wolff, Lyon et Cie, Paris 1911 / Luthéal system by the Brussels organ builder Georges Cloetens, built 1919-1922).
The preparation of this unique instrument was carried out by Michel Terlinck and Elisabeth Salverda, a Belgian doctoral candidate in musicology at KUL Leuven, a specialist of the Luthéal and collaborator of Ravel Edition. During this concert, the Luthéal was played by Julie Delbart.
The video features contributions from Alain Altinoglu (conductor and music director of the Orchestre symphonique de la Monnaie), Géraldine David (director-general of the Royal Museums of Art and History), Elisabeth Salverda (researcher) and Pascale Vandervellen (curator of keyboard instruments at the MIM).

French conductor Victor Jacob, at the podium of the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra (one of the partner orchestras of Ravel Edition for the Ravel 2025 anniversary year), gave the Chinese — and Asian — premiere of the 1928 ballet version of Bolero on 16 October.
Speaking about this concert, Victor Jacob shared: "The Suzhou Symphony Orchestra is particularly receptive to French music and, under the direction of its music director XU Zhong, has developed a strong mastery of this aesthetic. I was deeply impressed by the orchestra's skill in both Bolero and Claude Debussy's Iberia, which was also on the programme and remains a highly demanding score."
The conductor adds: "My aim was to offer a more narrative reading of Bolero and to work on the melodic phrasing, drawing inspiration from the original score. The percussion interpretation also aroused great curiosity. The main technical challenge was to secure the balance between the two snare drums. Not having two identical instruments on site, we had to work on the sound balance and, with the percussionists, we exchanged extensively about the types of instruments required. The stage of the Jinji Lake Concert Hall is quite spacious and we were able to work on the best possible spatialisation of the sound. The orchestra was particularly enthusiastic about this edition of the 1928 ballet version."
On the audience's attentiveness, Victor Jacob notes: "I had the opportunity to speak with the audience during a pre-concert talk. I was able to share elements that would help them appreciate the interpretation more fully. Of course, Bolero in concert is always a great moment for the audience and, as we had placed the score at the close of the programme, it became a true apotheosis."
Major critical success for the Spanish premiere of the Prélude et Danse from Sémiramis
The premiere of the Prélude et Danse from Sémiramis, given in Barcelona and Lleida by the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès under the direction of Néstor Bayona, was met with great public and critical acclaim, as reflected in the numerous articles published.

Maurice Ravel's Prélude et Danse from Sémiramis will open the 2025 Grafenegg Festival (Austria) with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich under the direction of Fabien Gabel, on 14 August 2025 on the Wolkenturm stage of the Grafenegg estate.
Sémiramis — "Prélude et Danse" followed by "Scène I – Air de Manassès" (world premiere) — will be performed by the Orchestre symphonique de La Monnaie on 20 November 2025 at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, then at the Philharmonie de Paris by the Orchestre de Paris on 17 and 18 December 2025. Alain Altinoglu will conduct both concerts.

The New York Philharmonic, under Gustavo Dudamel, gave the world premiere at David Geffen Hall of the "Prelude and Dance" from Semiramis, an unpublished early score by Maurice Ravel whose manuscript is held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
The world premiere of the "Prelude and Dance" from Semiramis, an unpublished early score by Maurice Ravel, was given during a series of concerts by the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, its designated Music Director, at David Geffen Hall. On this occasion Zachary Woolfe, music critic of The New York Times, wrote: "serious and dark, coloured by the faint gleam of a gong, the first section rises to the percussive rhythm of an opera overture. The music then quickens into a strident orientalist dance that recalls the Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns's Samson and Delilah and Borodin's Polovtsian Dances, one of the Russian masters Ravel adored. This 'Prelude and Dance' lasts five minutes. […] The piece is highly intriguing as a foretaste of what was to come: for one thing, Ravel divides the string sections into multiple parts to increase textural complexity, a technique he would use in later masterworks such as Daphnis et Chloé." The premiere received remarkable coverage in the international press. It took place in the presence of Mathias Auclair, Director of the Music Department at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, which holds the original manuscript, and Màrius Bernadó i Tarragona, representative of the Ricardo Viñes Estate, whose diary made it possible to reconstruct the history of Ravel's Semiramis.

These are precious sources for the art of interpreting Ravel, as these musicians knew — and sometimes worked on these scores with — the composer himself. Featured artists include Lucien Schwartz (violin), Lucien Petitjean (piano), Lucie Caffaret, Jean Fournier (violin), the Orchestre de Radio Paris under Jean Fournet, Jean Vigué and the Orchestre des Concerts Touche under Francis Touche, Marcel Darrieux and the Grand Orchestre Symphonique under Paul Minssart. Programme: Tzigane, the Sonatine, Ma Mère l'Oye, the Pavane pour une infante défunte, the Pièce en forme de Habanera, and a Bolero pour jazz band (arrangement for jazz orchestra by Robert Branga and Louis Salvado). Recorded between 1921 and 1941, most of these performances have never been reissued since their original 78 rpm release. Restoration and transfer for this release were carried out by Christophe Hénault at Studio Arts et Son. A digital booklet accompanies the release.

So memorable and illustrious in so many respects, Ravel's œuvre still holds pockets of his catalogue awaiting rediscovery. At the request of the New York Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, Ravel Edition is delighted to present the first edition of the "Prelude and Dance" from Semiramis, an early score whose manuscript has been held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France since 2000.
The world premiere of this score, which had never been publicly performed, is scheduled for 13 March 2025 as part of a Ravel 2025 anniversary concert by the New York Philharmonic under its designated Music Director Gustavo Dudamel at David Geffen Hall (with further performances on 14, 15 and 16 March).
The New York Ravel celebrations also include an exhibition supported by Ravel Edition, featuring the diary of Ricardo Viñes and original Ravel manuscripts lent by the Morgan Library & Museum. These documents are on display in the Katherine and Gary W. Parr Archive Gallery at David Geffen Hall from 3 March to 20 May 2025, alongside items from the New York Philharmonic's own archives, in tribute to the memory and genius of the French composer.

The chamber-orchestra orchestration of Ravel's Sonatine (1905) by Kenneth Hesketh receives its world premiere from the BBC Philharmonic under Paul Daniel in a studio concert on 26 September at MediaCity, Manchester (2:25 pm local time). The concert is broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. This is a Ravel 2025 project in collaboration between Ravel Edition and composer and Royal College professor Kenneth Hesketh. For Ravel Edition, Kenneth Hesketh has also orchestrated Sites auriculaires (original version for two pianos), co-commissioned by the BBC Philharmonic, the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, and the Ravel Festival. The world premiere takes place in Manchester in early 2025 by the BBC Philharmonic.

Committed to fostering emerging talent, Ravel Edition is delighted to support the 1st Composition Prize of the Ravel Academy as part of the Ravel Festival 2024. This 1st Composition Prize will be awarded on 30 August; it consists of a commission from the Ravel Academy to the winner, to be premiered at the Ravel Festival 2025.
Founded in 1967, the Ravel Academy takes place each year in conjunction with the Ravel Festival. It offers master classes including a session devoted to composition. Marked by the legacy of French composers and giving particular attention to today's music, the Ravel Academy launched the Maurice Ravel Composition Academy in 2022 with a first edition directed by Philippe Manoury.
Conducted in collaboration with the Basque Country Higher Centre for Music — Musikene, the 2024 composition class is directed by Michael Jarrell. Five young composers, drawn from Europe's leading institutions and selected by the artistic direction, will be mentored by a distinguished teaching team through a sustained writing project, culminating in a closing concert where their pieces are premiered by the Academy's instrumentalists.

The extraordinary music manuscript collection of Robert Owen Lehman has been deposited at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York. This prestigious collection holds major manuscripts of 20th-century music, including those of Bolero and La Valse by Maurice Ravel — sources for Ravel Edition's revised editions. The exhibition opens with the spectacular arrival of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company in Paris in 1909 and traces its impact across the arts, highlighting the rising prominence of women in leading creative roles with Bronislava Nijinska and Ida Rubinstein. The exhibition runs from 28 June to 22 September 2024 at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City. It is curated by Robinson McClellan, Assistant Curator for Music Manuscripts and Printed Music.

As part of an ongoing effort to promote heritage and share archival documents with the widest audience, and with the agreement of Clément Rosenthal, Ravel Edition has donated to the Orchestra Library and Music Library of Radio France an autograph letter by Manuel Rosenthal, dated 1 June 1935, on letterhead from "l'Orchestre National / Ministère des P.T.T." — in which the composer, conductor and pupil of Ravel congratulates soprano Germaine Letellier on her interpretation of his Chansons du Monsieur Bleu.
Ravel Edition wishes through this gesture to thank all its distinguished artistic partners and to express its deep friendship and respect for the Orchestre national de France on the occasion of its 90th anniversary.
